The current description used in the methods that take a serialVersion parameter is:
serialVersion (unsigned long) – The serialVersion of the system metadata that is the intended target for the change.
To me, this sounds a bit like we are asking the user to pick a specific version of system metadata by providing its serialVersion. How about:
serialVersion (unsigned long) – The current serialVersion of the object's system metadata.
