In Types.SystemMetadata,authoritativeMemberNode it states, "Replication should occur from the AuthoritativeMemberNode". I don't think there's any technical reason the authoritativeMemberNode must be the source for all replicas? Instead, how about letting the CN pick the source based on criteria such as bandwidth, closeness to the target, etc.
