The Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) project was launched in 2004 as the technological pillar of the Single European Sky (SES). Its role is to define, develop and deploy what is needed to increase ATM performance and build Europe’s intelligent air transport system.

GOAL
* linking datasets to sample metadata by having projects register samples for IGSN identifiers = SESAR data integration

NCAR wide initiative -- Data Stewardship Engineering Team (DSET) to lead the organization’s efforts to provide enhanced, comprehensive digital data discovery and access. This community-driven infrastructure will support a user-focused, integrated system for the discovery and access of digital scientific assets that include datasets and supporting metadata, publications (text, images, audio, video), software applications, and model codes. https://internal-ncar.ucar.edu/data-stewardship-engineering-team-dset

The Forest Service Research Data Archive is an actively curated repository for the long-term preservation and distribution of citable research data sets that are broadly relevant to forest and grassland ecology, and the economic and social interactions of humans with these ecosystems. Most data sets were created by U.S. Forest Service scientists or by scientists funded through the U.S. Forest Service or the U.S. Joint Fire Science Program.

The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is an international collaboration with a current focus on serving the World Climate Research Programme's (WCRP) Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP) and supporting climate and environmental science in general. Data is searchable and available for download at the Federated ESGF-CoG Nodes https://esgf.llnl.gov/nodes.html

Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center is a remotely sensed data management, systems development, and research field center for the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Climate and Land Use Change Mission Area. The USGS is a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Interior. It currently houses one of the largest computer complexes in the Department of the Interior. EROS has approximately 600 government and contractor employees.

Earthdata powered by EOSDIS (Earth Observing System Data and Information System) is a key core capability in NASA’s Earth Science Data Systems Program. It provides end-to-end capabilities for managing NASA’s Earth science data from various sources – satellites, aircraft, field measurements, and various other programs. For the EOS satellite missions, EOSDIS provides capabilities for command and control, scheduling, data capture and initial (Level 0) processing. These capabilities, constituting the EOSDIS Mission Operations, are managed by the Earth Science Mission Operations (ESMO) Project. NASA network capabilities transport the data to the science operations facilities. EOSDIS uses the metadata and service discovery tool Earthdata Search https://search.earthdata.nasa.gov/ (formerly: REVERB).

The Polar Rock Repository (PRR) at the Ohio State University holds over 40,000 physical specimens which are available to be "checked out" by users. Laura/Mark met with Anne Grunow and Wes Haines 4/28/16 to discuss DataONE, the PRR, and how we might work together.
UTK is in process of replacing TRACE with a system to manage both data and metadata. Currently, they expect that DSpace is the likely technology for an institutional repository, and they intend for this to to be a DataONE MN.
